There is a high burden of hospitalisations from infectious diseases in New Zealand. This project will build upon the work that has already been completed describing serious infection in the first year of life. The current study will quantify the burden of infectious disease hospitalisations up to five years of age in an ethnically diverse Growing Up in NZ cohort. The study will examine the effect of ethnicity on infectious disease hospitalisations while adjusting for established risk factors and will further examine the effects of access to primary healthcare on infectious disease hospitalisation rates.
