There is a high burden of hospitalisations from infectious diseases in New Zealand. This project will build upon the work that has already been completed describing serious infection in the first year of life. The current study will quantify the burden of infectious disease hospitalisations up to five years of age in an ethnically diverse Growing Up in NZ cohort.

Given the significant impact of the housing environment on childhood illnesses and diseases, it is imperative that any evidence on the current housing environment is presented to help inform housing policies in NZ and in turn, reduce the rates of preventable illnesses and diseases among children. This paper describes the housing environment for Pacific children and in turn, provides evidence to support both housing policies and healthy environments for families.
