About this project

The primary aim of this research is to investigate drivers and causal pathways that lead to school non-attendance and truancy. A secondary aim is to explore lifecourse factors that might offer insights into the pre-Covid attendance decline (2015-2019) and offer insights to inform policy development on attendance. The influence of socio-economic and cultural factors is also of interest.

Methods: linear and logistic regression / multivariate regression of factors (from GUiNZ variables) that relate to, and may have causally affected, school attendance patterns. Analysis of potential causes of changes in attendance patterns over time.

Anticipated outputs: Descriptive statistics and regression coefficients. Potential for longitudinal modelling of attendance trajectories over time and influencing factors.
