Now We Are 12: Ethnic and Gender Identit
This latest report from Growing Up in NewZealand shares insights and findings from when the young people in the studyare at the start of adolescence - a time of rapid social, emotional, andphysical development. The report is presented in a series of nine snapshotswhich topics are relevant to the health and wellbeing of young people.

Snapshot 1 looks at how theyoung people of the Growing Up in New Zealand study themselvesdescribe their ethnic and gender identity and present young peoples’ sense ofcultural connectedness and belonging to their ethnic group(s). It recognisesthat identity is nuanced, and multiple aspects of identity intersect anddevelop over the life course in relation to a range of structural and socialfactors.
