Research Projects Using Growing Up Data
Parents' experiences of their child's school transition
About the project
The current research project will examine parental perspectives of their experience of their child's transition from either early childhood education (ECE) service or home to primary school, both before and after this transition. The purpose of this research project is to identify factors that are associated with a smooth and satisfactory transition to school from the parents' perspective. The study will contribute to an understanding of parents' decisions and experiences within New Zealand during an important milestone of their child's life and may provide avenues to reduce the difficulties parents may face during their child's school transition. R studio, analytical software will be used to analyse various areas (such as transition activities undertaken by parents, whether or not parents faced difficulties when their children started school) by various factors (such as socioeconomic status, ethnicity). The results will provide overall guidance from the pre-transition to post-transition period on how parents experience their children's transition to primary school within the New Zealand context. The research project will make an original contribution to knowledge by presenting new insights on parental perspectives about pre-transition and post-transition into a primary school in New Zealand. This research project aims to provide a broad picture of how parents experience from the beginning to the end of their child's school transition.
